Wellness Lunch and Learn: The public is invited to bring a lunch and join in the conversation. All programs begin at noon and are held at the Library.

The Wellness Lunch and Learn is brought to you in collaboration with The Cornucopia Project.

June 22 – Cooking what you know with vegetables you may have just met! – Paige Lindell

Several short films by renowned chef Jamie Oliver will be screened and followed with a talk by Paige Lindell about strategies for using local foods in recipes and how to address the challenges and rewards of seasonal meal planning. Paige has been working in restaurants and kitchens near and far for 12 years. She believes in the power of food to shape communities and is working to find ways to be more neighborly through nourishing food.

The series is free and open to the public.

Upcoming Wellness Lunch and Learn Speakers:

July 6 – A Taste of Mindfulness – Pam Erdmann, M.Ed

This workshop will begin with an experiential adventure with Mindfulness. Following, we will discuss what Mindfulness is and isn’t, its origins and current applications and touch on some of the benefits of Mindfulness as evidenced in the most current research.

Pam has taught Mindfulness in both the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Correctional Systems, in hospitals, schools, corporations and the U. Mass. Clinic. Currently she supervises MBSR teachers at U. Mass, Southern California University at San Diego and the University of Wales, Bangor, Wales.

July 22 – Healthy benefits of pasture-raised meant, milk, and eggs – Dan Holmes

Don’t miss this eye-opening and informative talk by farmer Dan Homes of Four Winds Farm in Peterborough. He will discuss the nutritional difference between pasture raised meat and dairy and those raised conventionally (grain-fed in massive feedlots). Formerly with Sunnyfield Farm, Dan and his wife Ruth have been farming for more than 30 years and are devoted to providing their community with healthy alternatives to mass-produced meat and dairy.

August 3 – Living in Harmony with the Seasons: An Introduction to the Five Elements – Kate McCarthy, Lic. Ac., Dipl. Ac. (NCCAOM)

For thousands of years, Chinese philosophy has held that good health is a result of five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) being in harmony. It’s also a powerful way to think about how our bodies work. Learn how to find better balance – in your body and your life – and feel more connected to the natural world throughout the seasons. For those interested in experiencing acupuncture, Kate will also offer a 20-minute group session focused relaxation and stress-reduction. Free!
