Discovery Walk in Shieling Forest

Tuesday July 17th at 10:30am

Meet us at Shieling Forest for a family-oriented exploration of the nature and history of our very own state forest! We’ll discover evidence of glaciers and use our senses to learn about the trees, native plants, birds, and other wildlife that call our forest home. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after!

Shieling State Forest is cared for by numerous conservation organizations, including NH Division of Forest and Lands and the Society for the Protection of NH Forests. In 1980, Elizabeth Yates McGreal donated the land and buildings into a trust, with monies encumbered towards its care.

Mrs McGreal is a noted author who wrote many biographies geared toward youth, including the iconic Amos Fortune, Free Manabout a former slave who came to live in Jaffrey, NH in the early 1700’s.

The walk will be led by Jocelyn Duffy, a University of New Hampshire Coverts volunteer, who loves almost any excuse to spend time outside enjoying the natural world. She works as a naturalist for the Harris Center for Conservation Education and NH Audubon.
