Aimee’s Watch List v.2

Home / Book Suggestions / Aimee’s Watch List v.2

I was talking with a friend recently and he (knowing I am a HUGE Marvel Cinematic Universe fan) told me of this whole new way to re-watch the movies… well, some of them at least!

Here is the link to the blog that he was telling me about –

The one that is most intriguing to me is the Cosmic Marvel cut – I love space, I love sci-fi and I LOVE Chris Pratt and I love music from the 60s/70s… so It’s a no brainer that I want to watch Guardians of the Galaxy over and over and over.

Here is the list of movies in the order that they should be watched:

Films in the Cosmic Marvel Cut  order: Captain Marvel, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame

So, today’s round-up of my recommendations is based on a few of the movies from the Cosmic Marvel Cut.

Let’s start with Captain Marvel – which is a fantastic movie featuring the wonderfully talented Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Larson has played some other amazing parts in movies.

I recommend watching her in Room (based on the book by Emma Donoghue – both movie and ebook available on Hoopla) and The Glass Castle based on the book by Jeannette Walls which is available as an audiobook on Overdrive/Libby.

Larson has quite a few other movies available on Hoopla as well as her one album (wait, what?!): Out of P.E. – yes, Larson was once a pop music star hopeful – I’m glad she stuck with acting!

Okay, it’s time to talk about Chris Hemsworth (swoon). Not only has he played Thor in all of the Marvel movies, but he was most recently in a Netflix release: Extraction which is getting great reviews!

I also loved him in Bad Times at the El Royal (soundtrack available on Hoopla) which also has a little cameo from one of my favorites – Nick Offerman, see if you can spot him!

There are some great Thor comics available on Hoopla and for the younger folks out there you might want to check out the Magnus Chase series – which is based off of Norse mythology.

Hemsworth also starred in Snow White and the Hunstmen which was based off of the Grimm fairytale and a screenplay written by Evan Daugherty – the audiobook version is currently available on Hoopla!

Lastly you can watch Hemsworth in In the Heart of the Sea, based off the book by Nathanial Philbrick (about the whaleship Essex which was the inspiration for the infamous Moby Dick) and available on OverDrive/Libby and Hoopla (a young readers edition).

Next up is Natalie Portman who plays Jane Foster in all the Thor movies (including the upcoming Love & Thunder which looks AMAZING) plus Avengers: Endgame. She might be most famous for her acting in Black Swan (based off of the ballet by Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake – musical score is available on Hoopla) which was incredible and you can also see her in Star Wars Episode 1, 2 & 3 (which I don’t think are great but if you are really scrambling for something to watch – those movies are something). Portman starred in Cold Mountain, based off of the novel by Charles Frazier – available to watch and read on Hoopla and to listen to on OverDrive/Libby.

And FINALLY Chris Pratt! I love Chris Pratt – of course from his early Parks & Rec (check out my whole post on Parks & Rec here) days through to his most recent movie Onward – available to watch on Disney+ (this is a wonderful movie featuring some cool Dungeons & Dragons references, a family working together and magic!)! For more family friendly Chris Pratt fun check out the two LEGO movies! Pratt was also the lead in the newest Jurassic Park movies: Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which were both action packed, funny and had cool dinosaurs so, what’s not to love!? And then there is Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. These movies are so good – they can almost standalone amongst the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And I can’t mention these without also mentioning their soundtracks – music is so important in these movies, and the mix is just perfect and incredible and will have you dancing in your seats! Plus Vol. 2 has one of my favorite moments from all of Marvel (I know that’s saying a lot) when Yondu says “I’m Mary Poppins ya’ll”! It’s great. There are lots of great Guardians comics on Hoopla and both soundtracks!

There are so many other amazing actors in these movies that I just can’t mention them all – but I’m going to do a quick run-down of a few more that just shouldn’t be forgotten about/missed.

Anthony Hopkins: Silence of the Lambs (based on the novel by Thomas Harris, soundtrack and abridged audiobook on Hoopla), Legends of the Fall (based on the novel by Jim Harrison, available as an audiobook on Hoopla), The Two Popes on Netflix!

Stellan Skarsgard: Pirates of the Caribbean (lots of spin off ebooks and soundtracks on Hoopla), Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again (soundtracks on Hoopla love these musicals turned movies with a fantastic cast) , Good Will Hunting (available on Hoopla), Cinderella (the new-er live action version), Chernobyl (HBO miniseries – this was so good, I highly recommend watching it).

Dave Bautista: Hotel Artemis (loved this movie and its incredible cast – available to watch on Hoopla)

Bradley Cooper: Silver Linings Playbook (based on the novel by Matthew Quick which is available as an audiobook on OverDrive/Libby, Serena (based on the novel by Ron Rash, available on Hoopla as an ebook and the movie version), A Star is Born (soundtrack available on Hoopla).

Karen Gillan: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (a sequel to the 90’s movie Jumanji (partially filmed in Keene, NH) which is based off of the book by Chris Van Allsburg (available as an ebook and audiobook on Hoopla). Call of the Wild (the new version of this movie based on the novel by Jack London which is currently being read by PTL’s Literary Book club and is available as an ebook and audiobook on Hoopla and OverDrive/Libby!

I hope that you can find something from this big giant post that sounds interesting to watch, read, or listen to! I know I am still finding it hard to really dig into a book – so be easy on yourself and don’t stress about it – just watch a movie, or put on some music and have a living room dance party!
