At Town Meeting on May 9th, the library project was presented to the residents of Peterborough. Over 600 residents participated, one of the best turnouts on record! The 628 ballots cast represented 11.4 percent of the town’s more than 5,500 registered voters. The article passed with 502 in favor and 126 opposed.
The Library Trustees, 1833 Society, and Library Staff are elated with this resounding endorsement of our plans to build a new library! Thank you everyone for your support.
The 1833 Society has raised $4.1 million towards our $5.5 million goal for private fundraising. Securing public funding was an important step in our efforts to raise additional funds from private donors and foundations. We are now able to complete several grant applications and finalize requests to private donors.
Very soon we will be announcing the community phase of our capital campaign. This is the stage of the campaign where we will invite anyone who would like to participate to contribute towards the library project. You may see a thermometer tracking our goal on the library lawn!
Once the final funds are in place, the Town will award the construction project and the project will begin!
