Poetry Contest

Our first contest is for public school students in all ConVal elementary and middle schools and students at The Well School and Mountain Shadows School, as an event of the Peterborough (NH) Book Fair on May 12, 2019 and by advance entry by mail or email.
We encourage advance entries; see more below.

Overview:

Each student may enter only one poem – a 4-line poem – in advance or at the fair. The first 100 entrants by mail and all entrants composing a poem at the fair may claim a used book or a new bookmark at the fair. One winner each from the elementary and middle school students will win a Toadstool Bookshop gift certificate. Winners need not be present to receive the gift certificate, although we would love them to be there. Contest assessors will be:
Sebastian Lockwood, local storyteller, audiobook narrator, and poet; and Leslie Orsini, retired English teacher and journalist.

Specifics:

The poetry contest is part of the Peterborough Book Fair, which will be at the Peterborough Community Center, 25 Elm Street on May 12, 2019 (Mother’s Day) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entries may be mailed or emailed in advance (see addresses below) or written and submitted on the day of the Book Fair between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

The first 100 entrants to mail a poem in advance and all entrants writing and submitting a poem at the Book Fair between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., will receive a free book or bookmark*. Winning entries will be announced at the Fair at 1 p.m.

Guidelines:

Submit only one 4-line poem. Punctuation, rhyming, and capitalization is optional.

Each student may submit only one original (previously unpublished) poem on one sheet of paper. Write your name, mailing address, grade level, and your parent’s or guardian’s name (and phone number or email address) on the back of the piece of paper. See how to mail or email below.
