Monadnock Writers Group Speaker Series
September 16th at MacDowell Colony
Please join us for our September meeting, held at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough on September 16, where we will meet in the beautiful, newly expanded Savidge Library. Two colonists in residence at MacDowell will speak about their writing process and their current writing projects. Learn about the positive impact an artists’ colony residency can have on a writer’s work. Monadnock Writers’ Group member Roberta Visser will also read a sample of her work.
The Monadnock Writers’ Group meets on the third Saturday of every month from September through June, 9:45am-11:45am. The group meets in the large meeting hall at the library. Their Speaker Series is free and open to the public. For more information on the Speaker Series, check out their full program calendar here. Established in 1984, the primary mission of the Monadnock Writers’ Group is to offer fellowship and support to professional writers and to those actively engaged in developing their writing skills.
Gloria Norris on October 21st
Gloria Norris grew up in the Elmwood Gardens housing project in Manchester, New Hampshire. Her true crime memoir, KooKooLand, was called ‘electrifying’ by Oprah’s magazine and was named as one of NPR’s best books of 2016. It is a bracingly funny and chilling story of a young girl’s gutsy journey to escape her charismatic yet cruel father’s reign—an unforgettable story of survival.
Gloria began her career in New York as an assistant to film directors Brian De Palma, Martin Scorsese, and Woody Allen. Since relocating to Los Angeles, she has worked as a screenwriter with assignments that have taken her from Paris to the Amazon. As an independent producer, her films have premiered at the Sundance, Toronto, and Tribeca Film festivals.
