FAQ

Am I eligible to vote?

You can vote in local, state & federal elections in New Hampshire if you are:

  • A United States citizen
  • At least 18 years old on election day
  • A New Hampshire resident (your primary residence is in NH). If you have recently moved to NH, you can register as soon as you establish your primary residence here.
  • You can register as a Democrat, Republican, or undeclared voter.

How do I register to vote?

NH does not allow online voter registration, but you can register at the poll on election day, or at your town hall.

Not sure if you are registered to vote or what party you are registered as? Look it up at the State of NH Voter Information Lookup here.

To register to vote, you must prove your identity, age, and residency. The following documents can be used for proof. You may present documents in paper or electronic form.

  • A driver’s license or non-driver ID from any state is proof of identity and age.
  • A birth certificate, U.S. Passport/Passcard, or naturalization document is proof of citizenship. Note: A New Hampshire Real ID compliant driver's license is NOT proof of U.S. Citizenship.

The following documents can be used to prove residency:

  • Driver's License
  • Auto Registration
  • Dated Rent Receipt, pay stub, utility bill
  • Water/Sewer or Property tax bill
  • Hunting or Fishing License
  • Bank Statement

Before election day: Register at your town clerk’s office OR at a local supervisor of the checklist meeting.

The next supervisors of the checklist meeting is Wednesday, August 28 from 5:00-5:30PM at the Town House.  They are meeting for the purpose of new registrations, corrections, and updates to the checklist.

Election day: Register at your polling place.

More information about registering to vote can be found here.

Where can I view Sample Ballots?

Sample ballots will be available on the Town Clerk's website. Republican and Democratic sample ballots can be viewed on the Secretary of State's website here

What kind of voter ID do I need?

A list of valid photo ID is available here. If you cannot obtain ID, you may also sign an affidavit at the poll.

How do I register and/ or vote Absentee?

The Absentee Ballot Request Form is available at the Town Clerk's Office or on their website. You may register by mail using the absentee process if you cannot apply in person because you are temporarily out of town or have a disability that prevents you from applying in person.

Completed absentee ballots must be returned to your local clerk by mail (by 5:00pm on election day) or in person (by 5:00pm the day before the election). Please bring photo ID, proof of residency, birth certificate or proof of citizenship paperwork.
