Compensation: $18.00 per hour
About the position:
The Peterborough Town Library is seeking a friendly and welcoming library assistant to join our help desk team. Responsibilities include welcoming and directing patrons to resources, circulating items, making reading suggestions, and offering technology assistance.
The ideal candidate will have public library experience, enjoy working with people of all ages, and possess strong technology skills. They must also be able to comfortably multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail.
Peterborough Town Library underwent a fabulous renovation in 2021 and enjoys an average of two hundred visits per day. We have a small but mighty staff committed to our core values of Excellence, Respect, and Hospitality.
Essential job duties:
- Covers help desk as scheduled. Interacts with library patrons of all ages, answers phone, assists patrons and callers with routine questions and directs them to appropriate departments or staff. Explains routine library policies.
- Processes new library cards, library checkouts, renewals, returns, holds and registrations, utilizing the integrated library system.
- Assists patrons with wireless printing and technology instruction at public computers.
- Provides quality customer service to patrons and offers assistance with basic reference, reader’s advisory, program recommendations, community connections, referrals to other resources, and tech instruction.
- Participates in promoting all library events and services by actively engaging with patrons and referring them to printed and online resources.
- Assists with opening and closing procedures and tasks. Ensures all safety procedures are followed and the building is secure.
- Monitors and maintains orderliness of assigned library shelves and other library collections; collects and moves books and other materials as required.
- Assist with meeting room bookings. Stays informed of all events and assists with maintaining rooms, calendars, and staff communication about events.
- Provides assistance to Adult and Children’s Department as needed, including supporting programs, assisting with collection development, advisory services, and contributing creative ideas.
